ATLANTA, Nov. 11, 2015Assurant has joined with the Military Warriors Support Foundation and other generous corporate supporters to help make homeownership dreams come true for deserving military veterans.

Through the Assurant Foundation, the philanthropic organization of Assurant, the Company recently contributed $40,000 in support of the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Homes4WoundedHeroes program. That program presented mortgage-free homes to two combat veterans, with support from Wells Fargo & Company and Claims Recovery Financial Services.

As part of Assurant’s ongoing commitment to support charitable organizations that help veterans and their families, the Company is supporting Homes4WoundedHeroes and its mentoring program for participating families, including home stewardship, career transition and customized financial education.  These additional services provide lifelong skills that help the families be successful in civilian life.

“Our military men and women bravely serve our country so we can reach for our dreams. Our team, led by our Mortgage Solutions business, is proud to support this meaningful program alongside Wells Fargo and Claims Recovery Financial Services,” said Gene Mergelmeyer, president and CEO of Assurant Specialty Property, a business unit of Assurant.

Assurant joined with Military Warriors Support Foundation and supporters in announcing the donations at the recent Americatalyst industry conference in Austin, Texas. “To give back to veterans for their service, and help them achieve their dreams, is a privilege,” Mergelmeyer added.

The Military Warriors Support Foundation chose two heroic combat veterans to receive homes donated by Wells Fargo. One is a Purple Heart recipient, retired Staff Sgt. Marlene Rodriguez. During her time in the U.S. Army, Sgt. Rodriguez deployed twice in Operation Enduring Freedom, in Iraq, sustaining combat-related injuries. Now she plans to become an advocate for veterans and assist her comrades.
